1st Defense Training, LLC ( is a premier firearms training academy located in Belmont, North Carolina. Founded by Kelly H. Bivins in 2018, the academy offers a wide range of courses designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for personal safety and responsible firearm ownership. Kelly's journey into firearms training began after she experienced a violent crime in 2009, which led her to commit to never being unprepared again. She became a certified firearms instructor and safety advocate, focusing on responsible gun ownership, situational awareness, and practical self-defense skills. The academy's offerings include concealed carry classes, NRA and USCCA courses, self-defense tactics, security training, and women's only courses. Additionally, 1st Defense Training provides IDPA practice sessions every Tuesday from 6 PM to 8 PM, allowing individuals to practice drawing from the holster for self-defense, become competitors, or simply have fun.
