SACRAMENTO, California (WLKY) At age 78, retired schoolteacher Evelyn Myers made history on Friday by graduating from the Sacramento Police Academy, becoming the oldest recruit ever in the state. Myers, who spent four decades teaching mathematics in rural districts, enlisted after retiring last year to fulfill her lifelong ambition of serving in law enforcement. Academy instructors praised Myers for her determination and physical fitness. According to Lieutenant Marcus Jones, She exceeded the physical benchmarks set for cadets half her age and never missed a session. Chief Darnell Wilson lauded her resilience: Evelyns commitment reminds us that public service has no expiration date. Myers will join the Community Engagement Unit, focusing on elder-abuse prevention, neighborhood watch liaison work, and educational outreach in schools. She plans to spearhead programs teaching youth about conflict resolution and safe firearm handling.
