✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Nebraska, USAThe sharp blaring of my iPhone alarm snapped me awake at 4:45 a.m. I reached my hand out of the sleeping bag to shut the dang thing off, and quickly realized that the next few minutes were not going to be fun. It was easily below 15 degrees, and my hand was stinging within a few short seconds of being out of my toasty, sub-zero-rated cocoon. But, there was hunting to be doneducks to kill and upland prairies to walk. I took a deep breath, braced myself, and threw open the sleeping bag. The first thing I reached for was the Kings Camo XKG Pinnacle Jacket. With the shocking cold, I was wide awake. No coffee needed. The rest of that day was jam-packed. The crew I was with chased ducks and geese in the morning, stopped by the wall tent for brunch, and then headed off to the prairie in search of roosters and Sharptail. It wasnt until I was crawling back into my sleeping bag that I took off the Pinnacle Jacket; its that type of topyoull put it on and never feel the need to take it off. The Kings Camo XKG line has gained popularity as a budget-friendly gear option that stands up against high-end competitors. The Pinnacle jacket serves as a fleece midlayer typical of a sweater-like style. It provides the ideal insulation for a September archery hunt while also functioning as a base layer for the freezing December hunts. At a retail price of around $140, available for even less at the Kings website, the Pinnacle provides unmatched value in comparison to more expensive brands like First Lite and SITKA. This jacket is an all-around performer for any hunting situation. I have used it on various huntsfrom early-season archery to Nebraska bird hunting. During my time in the freezing duck blind, I found the Pinnacle to be crucial for layering. Even when it was too warm later for heavier gear, the jacket allowed me to remain comfortable and mobile, proving itself invaluable. One of my favorite features of the Pinnacle jacket is the impressive hood and full zip collar, which does not obstruct peripheral vision while providing warmth and a cozy fit. The thumbholes are also a thoughtful addition that assists in layering without bunching. Furthermore, the four-way stretch material promotes freedom of movement, ideal for active hunting. However, a significant downside is the absence of a DWR finish, meaning it lacks water resistance. Yet, it still performs adequately, keeping the warmth even when exposed to moisture, though it may take longer to dry. In terms of durability, the synthetic material resists tearing much better than comparable merino options. In conclusion, the Kings Camo XKG Pinnacle Jacket stands out for its quality, versatility, and affordable pricea must-have for any hunter. As hunting seasons progress and temperatures fluctuate, having this jacket at your side prepares you for whatever conditions may arise in the field.
