Prosecutor finds officer legally justified in fatal shooting during stolen car chase
📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Cincinnati, OhioA Cincinnati police officer will not face charges in the July 22, 2025 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton, who was armed and fleeing from officers responding to a stolen car report. Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich found the officer legally justified, concluding he reasonably feared for his life when Hinton pointed a loaded gun during a foot chase. Body camera footage captured an officer shouting 'he's got a gun' before the shots were fired. The incident began when patrol officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the downtown area. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Hinton fled on foot through a residential neighborhood. The pursuit lasted approximately three blocks before the fatal encounter occurred. Police recovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver from the scene. Hinton's family disputes the decision and plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming their son was attempting to surrender when shot. Community activists have called for an independent investigation and body camera footage to be released publicly. The shooting has reignited debates about police use of force protocols and the need for de-escalation training.
