Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has signed into law a new campus carry bill that allows students with concealed carry permits to bring firearms onto college and university campuses. The bill, which passed in both the state Senate and House, has sparked strong reactions from both gun rights advocates and opponents. Proponents argue that the law will allow students to defend themselves in the event of an active shooter or other threats on campus, while opponents fear it will increase the risk of gun violence in what are traditionally gun-free zones. The law requires that students must have a concealed carry permit and be at least 21 years old to carry a firearm on campus.
