Phoenix police are investigating an armed robbery at a local convenience store that escalated into a shootout late Tuesday night. Authorities say a masked suspect entered the store on West Glendale Avenue just before midnight, brandishing a handgun and demanding cash from the clerk. The clerk, who was also armed, drew his firearm and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. Witnesses reported hearing at least six shots before the suspect fled the scene on foot. Surveillance footage shows the suspect dropping his weapon during the escape. Officers later recovered the firearm nearby. No injuries were reported, though police confirmed that one bullet shattered a display case inside the store. Investigators believe the suspect may have been injured during the exchange and are checking local hospitals for anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. The store clerk, who has a valid concealed carry permit, is cooperating with police and has not been charged.
