On the morning of July7, 2025, at approximately 6:00a.m. CDT, 27yearold Ryan Louis Mosqueda arrived at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection station in McAllen, Texas. Driving a spraypainted vehicle, Mosqueda opened fire on agents and a local McAllen police officer with an assault rifle. Border Patrol agents and McAllen officers returned fire, fatally shooting the assailant. The officer, identified as Ismael Garcia, sustained a knee wound; two Border Patrol personnel were injured by debris from shattered glass. Garcia received prompt medical treatment and has been released from hospital care. Federal prosecutors have charged the incident as a potentially planned ambush targeting federal law enforcement. Preliminary evidence indicates Mosqueda believed he was responding to immigration policy grievances, although a formal motive remains under investigation. The Joint Terrorism Task Force has been notified, and FBI agents have secured the crime scene for forensic analysis.
