On August 14, 2025, Michigan State Police hosted a special active shooter training session in Grand Rapids for church leaders across the state. The session, led by MSP Director Colonel James Grady, aims to prepare clergy and church security for the possibility of armed intruders. The training comes just weeks after a Detroit area church faced an active shooter situation, and the shooter was neutralized by church security. The program has trained nearly 300 individuals since its inception.
