Canfield Fair Security Unchanged Despite New Ohio Gun Carry Rules

Organizers of the Canfield Fair in Ohio say they will not alter their existing security plans, despite recent changes by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost that allow open and concealed carry of firearms on county fairgrounds. Under Yosts ruling, agricultural societies are considered political subdivisions, meaning state firearm preemption laws apply. The decision comes amid growing concern about violence at public events. Recent incidents in Trumbull and Summit counties involved attacks and gunfire at similar fairs. Still, Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene and fair officials say they are confident in their current policing plans. While open carry will be legally allowed outdoors, organizers are relying on community cooperation and visible law enforcement to maintain safety. Sheriff Greene acknowledged there will be an adjustment period, but promised plenty of law enforcement at the event.
