FORT COLLINS, Colo. The Larimer County Sheriffs Office led a multi-agency active shooter drill at Poudre High School on Sunday, simulating a mass casualty event to test coordination between law enforcement, fire, EMS, and school administrators. The exercise included simulated gunfire, smoke, and role-playing victims with realistic injuries. Officers practiced immediate entry tactics, threat isolation, and transitioning to medical response once the scene was secure. EMS teams drilled on rapid triage, tourniquet application, and casualty evacuation. Sheriff Justin Smith stressed the importance of interagency cooperation. No one agency can handle an event like this alone we have to be able to integrate seamlessly, he said. The drill also included a post-event debrief, with feedback sessions to identify gaps in communication, staging, and command structure.
