On the morning of June 10, 2026, Manchester Police in Missouri initiated a search for an unidentified man observed with a firearm in close proximity to Parkway Schools. The incident was reported around 11 a.m. when school security was alerted by students who noticed the man drinking on school property. Following a brief interaction, the man reportedly revealed a handgun from a backpack and brandished it in the presence of the school security officer. The suspect subsequently fled into nearby woods.
Law enforcement quickly cordoned off the area, deploying specialized units including canines and drones, and a helicopter from regional operations was requested to assist in the search. Despite the urgent response, Manchester Police Chief Ed Skaggs indicated that authorities had struggled to establish the man's whereabouts and believed he might have left the area. Throughout the investigation, police have been actively interviewing witnesses to gather additional information regarding the identity of the man.
Although students were not in regular session due to summer break, several students remained on campus for summer activities. The school district responded promptly, placing all schools in lockdown to ensure safety, delaying dismissal and pick-up times as a precautionary measure. Chief Skaggs emphasized their priority on safety, reassuring the community of their commitment to protecting students and staff during the incident.
