Authorities in Cambridge, Massachusetts, are investigating the weapon allegedly involved in a recent shooting on Memorial Drive, specifically focusing on a multi-caliber rifle. This case has heightened concerns regarding how firearms, especially those that could be classified as “ghost guns,” find their way into the hands of convicted felons. Following the incident, which left two motorists injured, suspect Tyler Brown was arraigned from his hospital bed.
Firearms experts, including retired ATF executive Scott Sweetow, emphasize the troubling implications of a convicted felon like Brown potentially acquiring such a firearm through illegal means. Reports indicate that approximately 70 shell casings were discovered at the scene, underscoring the intensity and recklessness of the gunfire. The presence of a hunting scope on the rifle has raised alarm bells for investigators, pointing to the rifle’s potentially lethal capabilities.
Sweetow noted the significant risk posed by high-capacity, semi-automatic rifles, urging caution regarding the public danger they represent when inappropriately assembled or used. The victims in this shooting scenario were fortunate to have remained within their vehicles, which likely mitigated the impact of the bullets — though it should be noted that the projectiles still pose a grave risk as they pass through metal and glass.
