District Attorney Champ Crocker has ruled that two Cullman County deputies were justified in a July 19 shooting while serving an arrest warrant in the Bethel community. Deputies entered a basement to find the suspect barricaded behind a door. When ordered to open it, the suspect allegedly threatened to use a gun. As deputies breached the door, the man reportedly raised a shotgun, prompting them to fire, striking him once. Crocker reviewed bodycam footage and other evidence, concluding that deputies faced a deadly threat and acted appropriately, later administering first aid to the suspect.
