A Dartmouth man, Brendan Smith, was arrested on an array of firearm-related charges following an investigation triggered by a disturbance report. On Saturday afternoon, Dartmouth Police responded to Sabrinas Way where they uncovered evidence pointing to illegal possession and the manufacture of untraceable firearms, commonly known as ghost guns. This proactive response resulted in the seizure of two unserialized AR-15 style rifles, high-capacity magazines, a significant cache of ammunition, and various tools and equipment associated with illegal firearm manufacturing.
The investigation unfolded when officers received credible information that Smith, who does not hold a Massachusetts License to Carry firearms—and is legally prohibited from obtaining one—was engaged in firearms offenses. A search warrant, granted to Detective Matthew Correia, led to the discovery of not only firearms but also a 3D printer and USB drives believed to contain firearm design files, signaling advanced attempts to produce weapons outside of regulatory oversight. Smith’s charges include multiple counts related to illegal possession, storage violations, and unlawful modification equipment, illustrating serious lapses in adherence to gun laws. Following his arrest, the police chief praised the force's swift reaction, underscoring the community's threat from ghost guns, which can easily be fabricated without background checks, raising significant public safety concerns.
