On August 21, 2025, Denmark signed a significant contract with Colt Canada for the procurement of 26,000 Gevr M/25 rifles, a version of the C8 Modular Rail Rifle (MMR). This acquisition, scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2026, will replace the Danish Armed Forces' existing Gevr M/10 rifles and augment the nations infantry arsenal. The M/25 rifle is a modernized version of the C8 family, derived from the U.S. M16 series and widely used by NATO forces. The new rifles are designed to improve modularity, durability, and performance, allowing soldiers to attach mission-specific accessories like optics and foregrips. The C8 platforms flexibility has made it a popular choice across multiple NATO countries, including Canada, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The Danish Ministry of Defence signed the contract during the 2025 DALO Industry Days, with Colonel Thomas gendahl Knudsen representing the Danish Armed Forces and Colt Canada CEO Sean Congdon present at the event. The rifles will come in two color configurations: 13,000 in black and 13,000 in flat dark earth, ensuring operational versatility in various environments. The Gevr M/25, which follows Denmarks long-standing relationship with Canadian-made firearms, will serve as the standard infantry weapon for the Danish Army and Home Guard. This rifle will be the latest in a series of upgrades that Denmark has made to its small arms inventory, following its adoption of earlier C8 variants, such as the M/95 and M/96 rifles, which have been in service since the mid-1990s. The M/25s design offers several advanced features, such as a monolithic upper receiver and an M-LOK handguard, which reduces weight and allows for greater accessory integration. The barrel length of the M/25 rifle is expected to be 15.7 inches, providing a balance between precision and maneuverability. The rifle will also be equipped with an ELCAN Specter DR 1-4x optic, ensuring accuracy at a range while maintaining NATO-standard equipment compatibility. With this new acquisition, Denmark is reinforcing its commitment to NATO interoperability by standardizing its small arms on the C8 platform. The modular nature of the M/25 allows for future adaptability, ensuring that the Danish Armed Forces can remain flexible in an ever-evolving battlefield environment. The decision to maintain compatibility with NATO systems is part of Denmarks broader defense strategy to ensure seamless cooperation with its allies. The M/25 is not the only update to Denmarks military arsenal. Earlier in 2025, Denmark fast-tracked the procurement of U.S.-made M60E6 light machine guns, which will complement the new rifles and enhance Denmark's capabilities in both combat and training. These acquisitions are part of Denmark's comprehensive effort to modernize its small arms inventory and improve operational efficiency.
