The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina is set to initiate a series of active shooter and assailant training exercises aimed at improving the preparedness and response of law enforcement personnel during critical incidents. These sessions will commence at Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church in downtown Summerville throughout the months of June and July.
According to the sheriff’s office, the training scenarios will provide deputies with valuable hands-on experience to ensure they are equipped to engage effectively in emergencies involving active threats. Simulated gunfire using blank rounds, loud verbal commands, and other law enforcement response sounds will be common during these drills, which are designed to prepare both deputies and the community for potential active shooter situations.
Those in the vicinity should expect to see deputies in tactical gear, engaging in rapid movements between structures, and conducting operational drills around the church grounds. Proper signage to inform the public about the training exercises will be prominently displayed around the church property.
Training sessions are scheduled for several key dates including June 9, June 30, July 2, July 7, July 14, July 16, and July 21, highlighting a proactive approach by the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office to enhance public safety through realistic emergency preparedness exercises.
