A Fall River man is facing several gun-related charges after an early morning arrest on Monday. According to police, members of the FRPD C.A.S.T. with the assistance of the Emergency Services Unit, Metro Boston Gang Task Force, FBI Task Force, and ATF Task Force, executed a search warrant on a residence on the 100 block of Davis Street. The target of the warrant was 27-year-old Anthony Soto who was believed to be illegally in possession of firearms. Upon entering the residence, Soto was detained, and the apartment was searched. Detectives located 20 firearm feeding devices (13 of which being large capacity feeding devices), a Glock 26 9mm handgun, a Glock 19 9mm handgun equipped with a Glock switch, and ammunition.
The Glock switch, an aftermarket modification, converts a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic one, allowing continuous fire as long as the trigger is held down. This modification is illegal and reclassifies the firearm as a machine gun. Evidence was collected and documented by the FRPD Crime Scene Unit to support ongoing investigations. Soto does not possess a firearm license and is ineligible to obtain one due to previous firearm-related convictions.
The Fall River Police Department emphasized their collaboration with local, state, and federal partners in efforts to remove dangerous weapons from the community. Soto was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including possession of large capacity feeding devices, machine gun possession, improper storage of large capacity firearms, and possession of ammunition without a Firearms Identification (FID) card, among other charges. Reports indicate that he pled not guilty in Fall River District Court and is being held without bail pending a hearing.
