✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Phoenix, ArizonaSpringfield Armorys Model 2020 series features innovative hunting and competition rifles made from modern materials designed for durability and performance. Among these, the 2020 Heatseeker stands out, particularly for serious competition shooters. Its incredibly light weight and strong, rigid construction, derived from a meticulously designed chassis, allows for enhanced maneuverability without sacrificing stability. The carbon fiber-wrapped barrel not only looks fantastic but is also thoughtfully designed with threading for suppressor attachment, indicating Springfield's attention to modern shooting demands. A standout component is the B5 Systems stock, which is easily adjustable. This flexibility allows shooters of varying body types to customize the rifle's length of pull and cheek piece heights, essential for achieving an optimal shooting position and enhancing accuracy. The thoughtful adjustment mechanism, operated by simple wheel rotations, means that multiple shooters can quickly adapt the rifle to their individual needs during a match, promoting versatile usage in competition scenarios. Another highlight is the rifle's bolt and trigger system. The single-stage curved trigger can be adjusted between 2.5 to 5 pounds, providing a personalized feel for each shooter's preference and aiding in shot precision. I appreciated the tactile feedback when adjusting the trigger weight the positive clicks ensure that shooters can return to a desired weight setting easily. Upon pulling the trigger, it offers no slack, engaging solidly and predictably with every squeeze. The oversized bolt handle also enhances performance, enabling quicker cycling during use, described aptly as lightning fast due to its efficient design. The dual locking lugs and fluted bolt body not only create an aesthetic appeal but also provide functionality with smooth ejection of spent casings, which further contributes to maintaining rhythm in a shooting sequence. Key features include the Sharps Brothers Heatseeker chassis, which significantly contributes to the rifles light weight of just 1 pound, 3 ounces. This chassis is robust, derived from a solid aluminum block, making it extremely durable. Coupled with M-LOK slots for customization and a well-structured Picatinny rail for optic attachments, this rifle truly embodies versatility. Aesthetics are crucial, too. The Coyote Brown Cerakote finish not only looks great but also serves the practical purpose of resisting the elements. However, loading the detachable five-round steel magazine can be quite challenging; the high-tension follower spring can be intimidating for the average shooter, reflecting a trade-off between reliability and usability. For optics, a high-quality riflescope is a must, and the Zeiss Conquest HD5 complements the Heatseeker's performance beautifully. Despite its age, the scope provides clarity and accuracy at various distances. When mounting it onto the Picatinny rail, shooters should note its durability and effectiveness in enhancing target acquisition. Shooting the Heatseeker at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility near Phoenix, Arizona proved rewarding. The rifle performed admirably in a silhouette match, correctly hitting targets at varying distances. While there was some accuracy drop-off at longer ranges, notably at 500 meters, switching to heavier projectiles improved performance. Back at Tucson Rifle Club, results were consistent and impressive, confirming the rifles stated accuracy metrics from Springfield Armory. Overall, the Springfield Armory Heatseeker is a remarkable addition to the firearms landscape for both seasoned competitors and new shooters alike, merging quality with practical customization. With consistent accuracy tests confirming its performance, this rifle certainly deserves the attention it has garnered.
