Volusia County deputy fires after suspect raises gun during confrontation

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. A Volusia County sheriffs deputy shot and injured a man Sunday afternoon while responding to a domestic violence call in DeBary. Authorities say the suspect had been threatening a family member with a handgun prior to law enforcement arrival. When deputies confronted the suspect outside the residence, he allegedly raised the firearm toward them. One deputy fired, striking the man in the upper body. The suspect was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting an independent investigation, as is standard protocol.
