FTCS PMK 2.0 Aimpoint Micro Mount Offers AK Shooters a Low, Stable Optics Solution
Polish-made PMK 2.0 mount delivers triple-point stability and co-witness capability for AK platforms

✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Warsaw, PolandMounting modern optics on AK-pattern rifles has long been a challenge, with shooters often forced to compromise between stability, sight height, and ease of field-stripping. FTCS of Poland has addressed this issue with its PMK 2.0 Aimpoint Micro mount, an evolution of its earlier mounting solutions that has been refined through extensive field testing on AKM rifles. The result is a low, robust, and repeatable optic platform that finally gives AK users a way to integrate red dot sights without sacrificing the rifles famed reliability. The PMK 2.0 is precision-machined from durable materials and is available in several optic footprints, though the Aimpoint Micro footprint version is drawing particular attention. Its engineering focuses on three key priorities: a low profile that allows shooters to maintain a natural cheek weld, a solid mechanical interface that keeps the optic from shifting under recoil, and the ability to retain backup iron sight capability in case the red dot fails. The mount sits remarkably close to the bore axis, reducing mechanical offset and allowing for more intuitive holds at various distances. The integrated ghost ring at the front of the mount doubles as a backup rear sight, meaning users do not lose their iron sight capability even after removing the factory rear sight leaf. Installation is straightforward but does require some basic tools and attention to safety. Users must first remove the AKs original rear sight and leaf spring, which can be under significant tension. A vice, screwdriver, and cut-resistant gloves are strongly recommended to avoid injury during this step. Once removed, a silver mounting plate is inserted into the rear sight base. The PMK 2.0 mount is then placed over the base and secured with the primary screw, followed by two additional side screws that lock it into position. A third contact point rests on the receiver housing itself, creating a triangular, three-point interface that greatly increases stability. This design is one of the mounts strongest selling points, as it eliminates the tendency of some aftermarket mounts to shift after repeated firing. Live-fire testing has shown the PMK 2.0 to be exceptionally stable. Even after hundreds of rounds fired in succession and multiple full field-strips for cleaning, the optic retained zero with no observable shift. Because the mount sits low on the rifle, shooters are still able to disassemble their AK without removing the optic a major convenience for maintenance in the field. Despite its low placement directly over the ejection port, no malfunctions or ejection interference were reported during testing, further confirming that the design does not compromise reliability. From an ergonomics standpoint, the mount provides a lower 1/3 co-witness, allowing shooters to view their iron sights in the bottom portion of the optic window. This configuration offers the best of both worlds: a clean red dot sight picture for rapid engagements, with irons immediately available if the optic is damaged or its battery dies. The PMK 2.0 also keeps added weight to a minimum, preserving the rifles balance and fast-handling qualities, which is a critical consideration for defensive, duty, and competition shooters. The refinement of this system reflects a growing trend in the AK aftermarket toward purpose-built, professional-grade mounting solutions that mirror what AR-platform users have long taken for granted. The PMK 2.0s combination of robust construction, low profile, and backup sight capability makes it one of the most compelling solutions currently available for AK shooters who want to modernize their rifles without compromising their core attributes.
