Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College Police and Public Safety Department will host its annual Civilian Firearms Class on Saturday, November 15, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Beck Conference Center on the Wallace Drive Campus. This free training is designed to enhance participants’ confidence in firearm handling while teaching essential self-defense techniques and situational awareness. For the year 2025, the course will introduce a House of Worship Security Block.
This new segment is tailored specifically for faith-based security teams, focusing on planning, preparedness, and response strategies designed to ensure the safety of congregations. Gadsden State’s approach underscores a commitment to community safety and empowerment, as emphasized by Chief Jay Freeman, head of the Gadsden State Police Department. Freeman stated, “Our Civilian Firearms Class provides citizens the opportunity to learn firearm safety, understand legal responsibilities, and gain practical skills—especially as we approach the busy holiday season.”
The course schedule will be divided into two primary parts: From 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., attendees will participate in classroom instruction at the Beck Conference Center, followed by live range training from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. during which certified firearms instructors from multiple law enforcement agencies will lead the sessions.
Participants are required to bring a functioning handgun, a proper holster, eye protection, ear protection, and 50 rounds of ammunition. This hands-on experience will not only build participant confidence but also enhance their practical skills in managing firearms safely.
