On August 8, 2025, a Fulton County Superior Court judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking the enforcement of Georgias newly enacted ban on certain semi-automatic rifles. The law, passed earlier this year, prohibited the sale, transfer, and possession of a range of AR-15style firearms. The ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by gun rights advocates, including the Georgia Carry Organization, who argued that the ban infringed on constitutionally protected rights. Judge Melissa Grants order halts enforcement while the case proceeds, noting that the state failed to demonstrate that the ban would effectively reduce violent crime. Georgias Attorney Generals Office has signaled it will appeal.
