GOA Challenges Missouri County’s Gun Restrictions for Young Adults
Gun Owners of America Fights Jackson County’s Age-Based Gun Ban
📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Jackson County, Missouri, USAOn July 10, 2025, Gun Owners of America (GOA), alongside the Gun Owners Foundation and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, filed for a preliminary injunction to block a Jackson County, Missouri, ordinance that prohibits adults aged 1820 from purchasing handguns or possessing so-called 'semiautomatic assault rifles.' The ordinance, seen as a direct challenge to Second Amendment rights, has drawn sharp criticism from gun rights advocates who argue it unconstitutionally restricts young adults' right to bear arms. The filing, detailed in a motion available online, seeks to restore these rights pending a full legal challenge. GOAs Senior Vice President, Erich Pratt, described the lawsuit as a critical step toward dismantling restrictive gun control measures. The case reflects a broader push to protect Second Amendment rights for younger adults, following similar legal victories, such as the Fifth Circuits ruling in Reese v. ATF, which struck down a federal ban on handgun sales to 1820-year-olds.
