SHERMAN, TX Xavier Donnell Porter, a 32-year-old convicted felon from Grayson County, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for unlawfully possessing a machine gun, ammunition, and a firearm. The indictment comes after Porter was found in possession of a firearm during an investigation into illegal weapons trafficking. Federal officials have emphasized that possession of machine guns by convicted felons poses a significant threat to public safety. The investigation revealed that Porter had been involved in a network of illegal gun trafficking, which included firearms that were sold without background checks or proper registration. This case is part of a nationwide initiative, Operation Take Back America, that seeks to dismantle transnational criminal organizations and eliminate illegal firearms from the streets. Authorities highlighted that Porter had multiple prior convictions for violent crimes, making his access to such high-powered firearms especially concerning. If convicted, Porter could face up to 15 years in federal prison.
