✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Jackson, MississippiJACKSON, Miss. Four youth competitors represented Itawamba County at the 4-H State Shooting Sports Championship held July 1819, with 15-year-old Elliott Haffey delivering a standout performance. Haffey placed fifth overall in the Hunting discipline and claimed first place in the .22 Rifle segment of the event. The Hunting discipline is a multi-skill challenge combining a compass orienteering course, 3-D archery, wildlife identification, and a hunting knowledge exam. Haffey said he enjoyed preparing for the variety of activities, but the rifle portion was his favorite. I enjoyed studying for the various activities in the hunting discipline, Haffey said. I most enjoyed the rifle portion. The competition drew top youth marksmen from across the state, reflecting Mississippi 4-Hs emphasis on teaching safety, conservation knowledge, and marksmanship fundamentals. Organizers say events like these help foster lifelong respect for firearms while building leadership and sportsmanship.
