WAIANAE, Hawaii The Honolulu Police Department and the Department of Law Enforcement will host a gun buyback event at the Waianae police station on Friday, providing a safe, anonymous method for residents to surrender unwanted firearms. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will receive $100 gift cards for handguns, rifles, shotguns, bump stocks, and Glock switches, and $200 gift cards for automatic firearms, semi-automatic rifles, and ghost guns. All firearms must be unloaded, secured in a container, and stored in the vehicles trunk. Ammunition will not be accepted. Organizers stress that no identification is required and there will be no questions asked. However, participants are limited to receiving a maximum of three gift cards, regardless of the number of firearms surrendered. Licensed gun dealers and current or former law enforcement personnel are not eligible. Under state law, all collected firearms will be destroyed to prevent their return to circulation.
