The 2025 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) High School Trap Nationals concluded yesterday with a thrilling overtime shoot-off that saw the Des Moines Eagles clinch the national title against the perennial powerhouse, Cincinnati Clay Crushers. Held at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Ohio, the three-day event drew over 1,000 young shooters from across the country and set a new attendance record for SCTP. Perfect July weather produced high scores across the board, but it was teamwork and consistent execution under pressure that defined the top squads. The championship match remained deadlocked after regulation, forcing a sudden-death shoot-off. Des Moines team captain Emily Peterson, a senior now headed for collegiate competition, sealed victory with a run of flawless shots. Notable performances included two perfect 200-straight rounds and several youth shooters breaking into the top-10 leaderboards for the first time. SCTP organizers praised the sportsmanship and safety culture on display, while several college recruiters also attended, scouting future talent for NCAA shotgun squads.
