✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Hillsdale, MichiganThe Hillsdale College John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center, in collaboration with Springfield Armory, proudly hosted the second annual United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Collegiate Championship on September 20, 2025, at Hillsdales Ailes Action Shooting Range, located in Hillsdale, Michigan. This years event attracted a total of fifty-three collegiate shooters, showcasing their talent across two divisions: limited and limited optics. As the competition unfolded, the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team demonstrated remarkable skill, finishing second in both divisions. Notably, Kayla Mullin, a freshman at Hillsdale College, clinched the title of first-place high overall in the limited division, outpacing all competitors to become the collegiate limited division national champion. Head coach Adam Burlew expressed his pride in the teams performance, stating, "Hillsdales shooting sports program attracts skilled and dedicated athletes, and Kaylas achievement is an exciting milestone for the team. We were excited to host this competition with Springfield Armory again this year, and we look forward to more in the future." The annual Collegiate Championship aims to introduce collegiate athletes to USPSA competitions, enhancing their skills and fostering a sense of camaraderie among shooters. This year marked a significant increase in participants from last year, which hosted a total of 36 shooters. In addition to Hillsdale College, competitors included teams from well-known institutions such as Texas A&M University, the United States Naval Academy, and Clemson University. The match itself featured ten challenging stages of shooting, all of which tested the shooters precision and speed under various circumstances. A nail-biting awards ceremony concluded the day, celebrating the top performers in both divisions. In the Limited Optics Division, the team scores saw Texas A&M University securing first place with a score of 3,898.14 points, followed closely by Hillsdale College at 3,840.84 points. Virginia Tech took third place with a score of 3,742.98 points. Meanwhile, for the Limited Division, the United States Naval Academy won first place (2,662.21 points), Hillsdale claimed second (2,513.48 points), and Michigan State University came in third (2,147.62 points). Individual awards highlighted the remarkable performances as well. In the Limited Optics Division, first place was awarded to Sebastian Alora from Pasadena City College with a score of 1,134.81 points. In a commendable display of skill, Kayla Mullin emerged as the limited division champion with a high overall score of 1,075.08 points, triumphing over competitors from various prestigious universities. Aside from the competitive aspect, the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center is a state-of-the-art facility located just five miles from Hillsdale College. It boasts extensive amenities, including four international skeet fields, a 25-station sporting clays course, an action shooting range, and a 62,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor rifle and pistol building slated for completion by 2025. The center caters to all levels of shooters and is open to the public, providing memberships and various shooting sports programs. The potency of Hillsdale Colleges shooting sports program serves as an excellent avenue for collegiate athletes to hone their competitive skills in a supportive environment while adhering to the principles of responsible firearm use. As these young athletes progress, they represent not just their colleges but also the infusion of new talent in the shooting sports community, potentially reshaping the landscape of competitive shooting for years to come.
