Houston Gas Station Clerk Injured in Shootout With Armed Robbers

Police say two armed men entered the station on the citys north side around 2:45 a.m., demanding money from the register and cigarettes from behind the counter. The clerk, who police say is licensed to carry, drew his firearm and exchanged gunfire with the suspects. Surveillance video reportedly shows multiple rounds being fired before the suspects fled on foot toward a nearby neighborhood. Officers recovered several shell casings at the scene. The wounded clerk was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Police are searching for the suspects, described as wearing dark clothing and ski masks, and are asking for public assistance in identifying them. Investigators believe the suspects may be connected to a string of similar robberies in the area over the past month. Houston PD has increased patrols in targeted neighborhoods in response to the surge in armed robberies.
