Dante Beard, a 28-year-old from Rock Island, Illinois, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally shooting his coworker, Jamal Harris, during a shift at an industrial parts manufacturing plant in April. Authorities say Beard used a firearm he had stolen weeks earlier from a family members home. The incident occurred after a verbal altercation between the two escalated during their night shift. Surveillance video captured Beard retrieving a handgun from his locker and shooting Harris multiple times. He fled the scene but was apprehended hours later by local police. Prosecutors agreed to a plea deal that drops the original first-degree murder charge in exchange for full cooperation and testimony in an unrelated weapons trafficking case. Beard is expected to serve 2535 years under the agreement.
