✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Selma, ALSELMA, AL. On August 14, 2025, friends and family of gun violence victims gathered at the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth, and Reconciliation to lay out a quilt that memorializes those lost to violence. The project, titled Underneath the Quilt Youre Safe, consists of photographs of the victims stitched together with fabric in their favorite colors. The quilt project was designed by community navigator Callie Greer and aims to help families heal while promoting a message of peace. Zechariah Brown, a 16-year-old victim of gun violence, was one of the people honored in the quilt. His mother, Tenesha Brown, shared her pain and hope that the quilt will help raise awareness and inspire change. The city of Selma, which has been greatly affected by gun violence, hopes to turn the tragedy into a catalyst for peace. The event drew over 100 attendees, many of whom have been personally impacted by the violence in their community. As the quilt is displayed across different venues, it is expected to continue fostering discussions on solutions for reducing gun violence in Selma and beyond. The emotional ceremony served as a reminder of the human cost of gun violence and the importance of community solidarity.
