KUWAIT: The Kuwait Asian Shooting Championship officially commenced on Friday at the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Shooting Complex. This prestigious tournament has drawn participants from 17 different countries, highlighting its significance as a regional sporting event. Running until November 8, the championship promises to showcase the talents of various shooters on an international stage. During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, expressed his best wishes for the success of all teams and athletes involved. The ceremony witnessed the presence of high-profile figures including Luciano Rossi, President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), and Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, President of the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC). Their attendance underscores the event's importance and the support it garners from influential organizations in the shooting sports community. Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud praised the steadfast support from the political leadership in Kuwait, noting that the country has housed the Asian Shooting Confederation's headquarters for 21 years. He remarked on the notable advancements made in Asian shooting over recent years, exemplified by the impressive haul of 21 out of 45 medals achieved by Asian athletes at the Paris Olympics last year. This achievement speaks volumes about the level of talent within the continent, placing Asian shooters among the best globally. The ISSF President, Rossi, acknowledged the growing prominence of Asian shooting sports, attributing Kuwait's success to the diligent efforts of its shooting federation. He emphasized that Asia has become a key contender in international shooting events due to the high caliber of its athletes. Rossi conveyed gratitude towards Kuwait for hosting the championship, acknowledging its contributions toward fostering peace and cooperation through sport. Eng. Duaij Al-Otaibi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee as well as the President of both the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations, highlighted the advancements being made in Kuwaiti shooting. He confirmed that the federation is actively preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming to secure as many qualification slots as possible for their athletes. This commitment illustrates the long-term vision of the Kuwaiti shooting community and their desire to continuously enhance their competitive stature on the world stage.
