KUWAIT: The men's and women's skeet shooting competitions continue Thursday, as part of the Asian Shooting Championships, hosted by Kuwait at the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex, with the competitions concluding on November 8. Competition intensified among the shooters participating in the two competitions to qualify for the final round, which will be held on Friday. Rossi President of the International Shooting Sport Federation, Italian Luciano Rossi, confirmed that the levels and results in the Asian Shooting Championship exceeded expectations and matched those achieved in the Olympic Games in terms of numbers during the trap competitions. The trap competitions for men and women concluded yesterday, with Kuwait winning five medals from the top six places. Luciano Rossi, who participated in the award ceremony for the trap category winners, said that the championship was exemplary at all levels, from the reception and hospitality to the excellent organization in partnership between the Kuwaiti and Asian federations, to the levels achieved by the shooters, especially in the trap category competitions. He pointed out that the winner, Abdulrahman Al-Faihan, achieved the same score as the winner of the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Britain's Nathan Hills, which reflects the level of the current Asian championship in Kuwait. He added that the Asian event is moving in the right direction in terms of the quality of competition among the champions, expressing his confidence in Kuwait's ability to continue its support for shooting at the Asian and global levels. Rossi expressed his pride in being in Kuwait during the Asian Championship competitions, hosted by the President of the Asian Federation, Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud, and the President of the Arab and Kuwaiti Federations, Engineer Duaij Al-Otaibi, and the Kuwait Shooting Federation. Al-Hammadi For his part, the technical delegate of the championship, Abdullah Al-Hammadi, expressed his sincere thanks to Kuwait and Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah, President of the Asian Shooting Federation, for the kind invitation to attend the Asian Championship events as a technical delegate. Al-Hammadi noted that the technical level of the championship competitions since their inception has been very high and the competition among the shooters has been fierce, as everyone is keen to achieve one of the top positions in each category. He added: "In the trap category, the competition on the first day was for 50 targets, as was the case on the second day, while the final day yesterday was for 25 targets." He pointed out that, as it was an Asian championship, the organizing committee sought to include everyone in the final so that the six best trap and skeet shooters could enter the final. He emphasized that the participation of the teams in the Asian Championship in Kuwait is an opportunity to prepare for the 2020-2026 calendar of the Asian Shooting Federation and the International Federation, while praising the work of the organizing committee of the Asian Championship, headed by the president of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations, Engineer Duaij Al-Otaibi. Al-Faihan For his part, shooter Abdulrahman Al-Faihan, who won the gold medal of the trap competition expressed his immense joy at winning the gold medal, while his teammates Al-Turqi and Al-Mudaf won the silver and bronze medals, reflecting Kuwait's excellence in shooting at the continental level. He dedicated this victory to the country's political leadership and the Kuwait shooting family. Al-Faihan said that the competition was fierce and characterized by parity, especially in the final round, where Kuwait shooters showed high concentration, enabling them to dominate the top positions. He noted the support of the Kuwait Shooting Club and the efforts of the technical and administrative staff, which resulted in this great achievement. Al-Mudaf For his part, Kuwait shooter Khaled Al-Mudaf, who won the silver medal in the same championship, attributed Kuwait's dominance of the top positions in the Asian shooting competitions to their intense focus and the home advantage that gave Kuwait shooters an extra boost. Al-Mudaf, who won the trap competition, said that the competition was not easy at all with the Asian champions, noting that the biggest challenge was facing the Kuwait champions among themselves to decide the top three places. He said that the strong competition with the Asian champions will have a positive impact on future championships.
