In a shocking incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Cole Allen allegedly attempted to attack attendees with firearms he purchased from two California establishments. The shooter bought a Maverick 12-gauge shotgun from Turner’s Outdoorsman in Torrance in August and a semi-automatic pistol from CAP Tactical Firearms in Lawndale in October 2023. Allen was charged with multiple felony counts after his attack at the event, which included a shotgun, a pistol, and knives.
Agents tracking Allen revealed he had trained regularly at a shooting range and stored his weapons at his parents’ home in Torrance. While Turner’s Outdoorsman caters to outdoor enthusiasts with a variety of gear and firearms, inquiries about the purchasing process regarding Allen were met with a refusal to provide details. Conversely, CAP Tactical Firearms, managed by Bill Mullen, promotes a family-friendly atmosphere while emphasizing responsible firearm ownership, asserting compliance with background checks and permitting.
In a troubling twist, Allen sent a manifesto detailing his motives shortly before the shooting, identifying himself with alarming rhetoric as the “Friendly Federal Assassin,” indicating his intent to harm officials associated with the Trump administration at the event, which hosted approximately 2,500 participants including President Trump.
