Minnesota Governor Tim Walz recently expressed frustration over the lack of compromise from Republican lawmakers regarding his proposed gun control measures. Following a tragic shooting incident on August 27 at Annunciation Catholic Church, where a trans man opened fire during a church service, Walz called for a special legislative session aiming to pass an "assault weapons" ban among other gun control initiatives.
During this special session, Democrats sought to re-enact the state’s binary trigger ban that had been struck down by a district court, as well as impose requirements for serial numbers on firearms, establish safe storage regulations, mandate gun safety training, and create a civil commitment division within the Attorney General’s Office.
