Morris County recently celebrated the graduation of ten new correctional police officers from the Essex County Police Academy. This achievement marks the completion of a rigorous 19-week training program, which began on December 12, 2025. The recruits participated in various types of training, which included physical fitness, classroom education, unarmed defense tactics, and specialized courses in CPR and emergency response. Notably, their curriculum also encompassed firearms training, vital for their roles in public safety.
The graduation ceremony took place at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark, attended by family, friends, and academy staff who came to witness and celebrate this important career milestone for the graduates. Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon commended both the graduates for their perseverance and the correctional facility team for providing them with guidance throughout the demanding training process. Among the graduates, Vincent Barba received special recognition for earning the Firearms Award, signifying excellence in firearms-related training and skills.
As these officers transition into their roles, officials expressed confidence in their capabilities to fulfill the responsibilities required of them as public servants in the Morris County community.
