ND Outdoors: Deer Hunting Enforcement
📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Bismarck, NDBISMARCK, ND (KXNET) With the deer gun hunting season opening on Friday, November 8, ND Outdoors went over some of the more common violations that game wardens see during the deer season. So you need 400 square inches of solid fluorescent orange above your waist, and you also need an orange hat or head covering, said game warden Gage Muench. One thing to remember is to always have your deer tag with you while youre hunting, said Mike Anderson. Muench agreed, Its a very important piece of the whole hunt that you need to make sure you have with you and its ready to go when you need it. Noting if youre lucky enough to harvest a deer, the tag is the first thing you need. The first thing they need to do when they come up on that animal is get out their tag, validate it, and get that tag affixed to it before doing anything else with the deer, said Muench. Always make sure you have the right to be on the land where youre hunting, Anderson noted. As far as posting goes, theres two main ways of posting in the state of North Dakota. Its either physically posted, the more the traditional route, or it can also be posted electronically, Muech noted. Anderson noted, If you harvest a deer on land where you have the legal right to hunt and it runs onto posted property, you are allowed to retrieve the animal. You have to do it unarmed, so any weapon you have with you, a bow or a rifle, has to be left at the fence. Retrieve that animal and, as fast as possible, bring it the most direct route back to the property you have the legal right to be hunting on, Muech said. Even though you can retrieve the animal, its always a good idea to let the landowner know, Anderson said. The most important thing is that we want people out in the field following the rules, recreating safely, and having fun with everyone. At the end of the day, we want everyone to get home safe, Muench concluded, stressing the importance of regulations and awareness in ensuring a pleasurable hunting experience this season. As hunters prepare for the upcoming season, understanding local regulations can directly impact both the enjoyment and success of their hunts. There's a growing emphasis among wardens and conservationists on safety gear - particularly the necessity of visible orange clothing, as it not only enhances safety among hunters but also prevents accidents in crowded woods. Current guidelines indicate that the odds of incidents reduce significantly when safety measures are rigorously applied. Although hunters might feel these regulations could be seen as burdensome, many argue that they lay down a necessary framework for responsible hunting, fostering a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone involved. In light of increasing participation rates in hunting, theres also been a noted uptick in violations related to hunting tags and property rights. Early reports suggest that game wardens expect to see a continued focus on compliance in these areas. With hunting season already underway in North Dakota, the advice from both game wardens and seasoned hunters is simple: Be prepared, stay informed about the rulesespecially regarding land useand always prioritize safety. Mistakes can lead to hefty fines or worse; thus, hunters should commit to following the necessary regulations not only for their own wellbeing but for the entire hunting community's reputation as well.
