California Shooter Gears Up for IDPA and USPSA with Customized M&P 9 2.0 Pistols
📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍CaliforniaOn July 14, 2025, a California-based shooter announced their return to the Smith & Wesson M&P platform, purchasing two M&P 9 2.0 pistols for use in IDPA and USPSA Carry Optics divisions. The shooter, who previously owned a first-generation M&P but sold it due to magazine availability issues and its removal from California's roster, is now taking advantage of Smith & Wesson's renewed support for California-compliant firearms. The pistols are equipped with 5-inch optic-ready slides, Apex Flat-Faced trigger kits, and Holosun 507 Comp optics. The shooter plans to test 125-grain and 147-grain blue bullets with a power factor of 132 to 135, tailoring their setup for competitive performance. Community members on the M&P forum offered recommendations, including Wolff Spring Co. for recoil springs and guide rods, and Galloway Precision for additional performance parts. For IDPA, a Springer Precision ESP magwell and a Black Scorpion Gear Pro holster were suggested, while USPSA rules prohibit magwells. This development reflects the growing popularity of the M&P platform in competitive shooting, particularly in states with restrictive firearm regulations.
