The Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club has recently dedicated a new long-distance rifle range, funded by a $50,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC). The new range, which was officially opened on June 1, is part of the PGC's Shooting Range Improvement Program aimed at improving Pennsylvania's shooting range infrastructure and expanding access for potential new members. This initiative is vital for promoting community engagement in shooting sports, benefitting not only current club members but also attracting new participants to the sport.
With a variety of upgrades, including the addition of a pavilion that provides essential cover and comfort during shooting activities, the club emphasizes its commitment to creating a welcoming and educational environment. Rick Vallent, the club president, noted that this space will significantly enhance the experience for members, particularly during NRA firearms safety classes and youth-focused programs designed to foster shooting skills among the younger demographic.
The selection of Factoryville for this grant was competitive, with 95 applications submitted for the program, highlighting the club's commitment to community involvement and youth engagement as key factors for selection. Vallent acknowledged the efforts of club members like Stan Kay, whose diligent work helped secure the necessary documentation for the grant application process. The improvements made to the range and the previously established programs are set to play a crucial role in fostering a strong shooting sports culture in the area, creating opportunities for a variety of events and training sessions.
