📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Albion, New YorkNorth Star Ammo & Defense, a new retail establishment focused on firearms, ammunition, and safety, celebrated its grand opening today in Albion, New York. The business is housed in a transformed sandstone warehouse that once served as a storage facility, now renovated and equipped to provide a wide selection of products aimed at promoting responsible gun ownership among locals. The owner, Shawn Malark, has spent the past three years dedicating his efforts to develop North Star. The shop offers firearms, ammo, apparel, and various accessories at 227 West Ave, accessible via the side entrance on Hamilton Street. Malark, a graduate of Kendall High School, has been running Orleans Pallet, also located in the same historic building, since 2006, bouncing back from a devastating fire that affected part of the structure in 2013. Malark has a vision to enhance safety and self-protection skills in the community. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service, he stated during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Our team is dedicated to promoting safety, education, and responsible gun ownership. We believe our business will be a positive addition to the area by serving the needs of local hunters, sporting club members, and responsible citizens. The grand opening drew numerous local officials, who praised the impressive renovation of the former warehouse. Guests were treated to a vibrant atmosphere of excitement with opportunities to win prizes through raffles and engaging with the North Star team of experts. The grand opening celebration also includes a meet-and-greet scheduled for Friday, allowing interested patrons to learn more about the store's offerings. A highlight of the North Star team is the wealth of knowledge brought in by its employees, all known figures in the local law enforcement community. Corey Black and Eric Harling are recently retired investigators from the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force, while Dave Meyer has transitioned from 31 years as a state parole officer to help at North Star. Their combined expertise forms a solid foundation for educating customers on various firearms and responsible ownership. Black, who has previously served as a firearms instructor for local law enforcement and taught the pistol permit class, is eager to share his knowledge with customers venturing into firearm ownership. He emphasized the excitement of this new venture, saying, "This is a team environment. The people that come in here are happy and theyre excited. The store not only focuses on selling firearms but also aims to collaborate with local fire departments and non-profits for future gun raffles, providing options for those winning firearms but unable to pick them up directly at the store. Should this scenario arise, North Star has made arrangements to ship firearms to other Federal Firearms Licensed dealers closer to winners residences. The story behind the name of the business carries a personal touch; Malark revealed that the name 'North Star' was inspired by a sentimental moment with his young daughter, Kendall, who, upon watching a nursery rhyme, spoke those words for the first time. For Malark, this affirmation fueled his determination to make North Star a reality. Comprising a dedicated staff of six, Malark is optimistic about the potential for growth beyond Orleans County, fueled by the teams commitment to fostering a safe environment. We want to do something special here and bring people together who want to feel safe, he emphasized during his speech. North Star is not just a retail space; it aims to establish a welcoming hub for the community, pairing quality merchandise with an educational experience. In a bid to further community engagement, North Star is introducing branded apparel and merchandise that highlights local first responders and critical service roles, spanning law enforcement to healthcare. This initiative showcases Malarks commitment to honoring and recognizing those who serve the community in various capacities. As North Star continues to establish itself, community feedback suggests that the shop could become a vital resource for responsible gun ownership and education in the local area. With a focus on approachable interactions and dedicated service, North Star appears well-positioned to meet the needs of its customers, leading efforts to foster a culture of safety and respect around firearms.
