On July 27, 2025, Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced that over 3,000 illegal firearms have been removed from New York City streets so far in 2025, with a total of approximately 22,700 seized since Adams took office. Officials touted a recordlow number of shooting incidents and shooting victims, including a 50% reduction in shooting incidents in the Bronx precinct where the announcement was made. Commissioner Tisch emphasized that no other U.S. police department approaches those numbers in gun seizures. However, both Adams and Tisch cautioned that proliferation of 3Dprinted firearm componentssuch as magazines, suppressors, barrels and even functional revolversis posing novel challenges. Mayor Adams displayed a 3Dprinted revolver as an example of weapons bypassing serial number tracing. He urged federal partners to update laws and enforcement capabilities to keep pace with untraceable ghost guns.
