In a concerning incident from Oconee County, South Carolina, the local sheriff's office reported that a man was found in a crawl space with a rifle after allegedly breaking into a home. The incident began on Saturday when deputies responded to an alarm at a residence on Sweet Gum Drive. It was reported that an unidentified man had entered the home, stolen beer, and fled the scene. Later in the day, deputies returned to the property following reports of a suspicious individual armed with a firearm who was reportedly looking into windows. Upon their arrival, they discovered signs of disturbance inside the home including scattered food and an open pantry.
Upon investigation, deputies located Thomas Edwin Turner, 38, hiding in the crawl space. He was found in possession of a rifle, ammunition, tools, and an open container of alcohol. Turner was subsequently taken to the hospital before being booked into the Oconee County Detention Center, where he was denied bond and charged with multiple offenses related to the break-in. This incident raises particular concerns regarding firearm accessibility during criminal activities and how such cases are managed within the community.
