The incident unfolded when the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which point the suspect opened fire. A pursuit ensued, during which the suspect and officers exchanged gunfire in the 4600 block of Thatcher Avenue. The chase concluded when officers successfully utilized a tactical vehicle intervention to stop the stolen vehicle. The suspect, identified as a 16-year-old male, also suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and has been taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), under the leadership of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, has been activated and will conduct a thorough investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
