A person armed with a rifle was shot and killed by law enforcement early Saturday morning after a tense standoff at the Perkofski Boat Launch. The Wisconsin Department of Justices Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has opened an investigation into the fatal incident. According to officials, officers from the De Pere Police Department, Ashwaubenon Public Safety, and the Brown County Sheriffs Office responded around 1 a.m. to reports of an armed individual. Negotiations began upon arrival, but escalated when the subject allegedly 'produced a rifle,' prompting officers from De Pere and Ashwaubenon to discharge their firearms. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene despite immediate life-saving efforts. All officers involved were wearing body cameras, and per protocol, have been placed on administrative leave. DCI is handling the investigation, and full cooperation has been confirmed by all departments involved. No officers were injured during the event.
