MANHEIM, Pa. The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) graduated 59 new troopers at a ceremony in Manheim, marking the completion of nearly six months of intensive training for the 173rd Cadet Class. Governor Josh Shapiro and PSP Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris praised the cadets for their discipline and commitment. The Shapiro administration previously waived college credit requirements for trooper applicants, leading to a surge of applicationsover 820 in the latest cycle. The move is credited with broadening the pool of recruits and helping fill critical law enforcement gaps across the state. Special awards recognized cadets for pistol proficiency, driving safety, academics, and leadership. Graduates will now be assigned to posts across Pennsylvania, with Troop H in Harrisburg receiving the largest contingent. Shapiro emphasized ongoing investment in public safety, pointing to his proposed $16 million budget allocation to fund four more cadet classes in 202526 and eliminate statutory caps on trooper numbers. You are the best of us, Shapiro told the new graduates, and now you will carry the responsibility of keeping Pennsylvanians safe.
