Investigators in Thika are dealing with a concerning theft of firearms and ammunition from the Maguguni Patrol Base that took place early Tuesday morning. Reports indicate that Corporal Simon Cheboi, the officer on duty, made this alarming discovery just after 4 AM on October 29, 2025. During his patrol, Cheboi observed unusual activity in the vicinity, reportedly triggered by barking dogs near the patrol base and the nearby A.I.P.C.A. Church. This prompted Cheboi to investigate further, only to return to find that one of the iron sheets covering the armory had been disturbed.
Upon closer inspection, he discovered the padlock on the armory door was broken, leading him to investigate the steel box used for weapon storage. To his shock, he found the box opened with several firearms and a significant amount of ammunition missing. The account of the incident reveals two types of firearms were stolen: an AK-47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines containing 60 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and a G3 rifle with one fully loaded magazine holding 20 rounds, alongside two empty magazines and an additional 96 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
These findings have alarmed senior police officials, including the Sub-County Police Commander and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer for Thika East, who responded to the scene promptly. Crime Scene Investigators from Thika West have also logged the event, aiming to piece together the circumstances surrounding this troubling theft.
Interestingly, preliminary investigations suggest that the theft was executed without forced entry—both armoury padlocks were reportedly found intact, leading police to question how the perpetrator accessed the firearms.
