The event, held annually to commemorate the D-Day landings, featured intense competition and remarkable performances from participants in a variety of categories, including Three-Gun, Four-Gun, Garand, and Military Rifle matches. The standout performer of the event was Chance Cavin of Madison, Mississippi. Cavin, 38, set three new event records at the competition, including record-breaking performances in the Three-Gun Aggregate, Four-Gun Aggregate, and Carbine categories. Cavins scores of 869-26X in the Three-Gun Aggregate, 1157-38X in the Four-Gun Aggregate, and 380-8X in the Carbine event raised the bar for future competitors. His dominance didnt end there, as he also claimed victories in both the Garand and Vintage Military rifle matches, posting impressive scores of 294-11X and 288-9X, respectively. But Cavin wasnt the only one making history at the D-Day Matches. Keith Schachle, 66, of Jasper, Georgia, etched his name into the record books with a victory in the Springfield Match, finishing with a score of 289-8X. Schachles success didnt stop there, as he teamed up with Ken Lore to lead the Boomers squad to victory in the Manual Vintage Sniper Team match, posting a team score of 392-12X. Schachles performances demonstrated the continuing strength and competitive spirit of seasoned shooters at the event. On the pistol range, Kyle Kirschenmann, 61, of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, put on a dominant display, winning both the Military & Police Pistol Match with a score of 350-7X and the As-Issued 1911 Match with an impressive 357-5X. Kirschenmanns back-to-back victories showcased his expertise and skill with the pistol, and his performances were among the most notable at the competition. The event also included shotgun events, where the team of Grant Lewis and Dudley Parker, shooting under the team name Sunshine, claimed the Team Match title with a score of 163. Additionally, Mark Holland, 61, of Sanford, North Carolina, emerged as the winner of the Five-Stand event with a score of 24. The competition also featured Vintage Sniper Team matches, where SIRPC Iron Wind, consisting of Paul Jackson and James Diehl, earned the highest team score of the weekend at 394-16X in the Vietnam Era match. Other standouts included Danny Arnold, 60, of Purcell, Oklahoma, who won the Modern Military match with a score of 295-18X, and Scott Godwin, 51, of Auburn, Alabama, who took home the Roosevelt Commemorative title with a score of 289-7X. The 2025 CMP Talladega D-Day Matches not only featured high levels of competition, but they also highlighted the camaraderie and sportsmanship that makes the event so special.
