SAAMI Releases Comprehensive Suppressor Performance Standards for Manufacturers

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI) has unveiled the first-ever Voluntary Industry Performance Standards Criteria for Firearm Sound Suppressors. This long-awaited document, eight years in the making, provides in-depth technical guidelines for manufacturers of firearm suppressors. The standards cover a wide array of specifications, including thread and socket drawings, measurements for sound reduction, and testing procedures for durability and overpressure resilience. The introduction of these guidelines addresses the growing consumer demand for high-quality suppressors. SAAMIs senior director, Alan Serven, will present the new standards at the PCB Conformal Ballistic Training in Buffalo later this month. These new criteria aim to standardize suppressor production and enhance their reliability and effectiveness.
