The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) marked Constitution Day by calling on all Americans to stand firm in defending the Second Amendment. Amid mounting challenges to Americans' constitutional rights, SAF emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding the right to keep and bear arms, warning against the ongoing efforts to infringe on these rights. In a statement issued on September 17, 2025, SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut urged citizens to take action against the sustained attacks on the Second Amendment. Kraut noted that, while the Second Amendment is often touted as the protector of all other rights, it has increasingly come under fire, with numerous legal battles and legislative measures threatening to limit gun ownership and usage. Constitution Day is a reminder that the Second Amendment stands as one of the most vital pillars of our democracy, Kraut said. Unfortunately, we see a concerted effort to weaken, undermine, and outright attack this fundamental right. It is more crucial than ever that we come together to defend the Second Amendment. Founded in 1974, the Second Amendment Foundation is the largest and oldest tax-exempt group dedicated to defending Americans' right to bear arms. Over the decades, SAF has been at the forefront of more than 260 legal actions and currently has over 50 active lawsuits challenging various infringements on gun rights. The foundations legal efforts include challenges to assault weapon bans, magazine capacity limits, and the restriction of firearms access to young adults. SAF has consistently led the charge in defending the Second Amendment in courtrooms across the country, said Alan M. Gottlieb, the founder and Executive Vice President of SAF. Our mission is simple: to ensure that every American can fully exercise their rights as protected under the Constitution, beginning with the Second Amendment. The foundation has pointed to several high-profile legal victories as evidence of its success in challenging unconstitutional gun control laws. In particular, the SAF has been part of key cases that have dismantled citywide bans on firearm ownership and expanded access to concealed carry permits. Their ongoing litigation efforts cover a wide array of issues, from challenging magazine restrictions in California to contesting sensitive places laws in various states. The announcement also highlighted the growing network of supporters who are working alongside SAF to push back against legal and political attacks on gun rights. The foundation has called for a greater focus on the judicial system to ensure that Second Amendment protections are upheld in the face of mounting opposition from anti-gun lobbyists. Despite the strong legal foundation in place, the group acknowledges that the fight is far from over. Anti-gun activists continue to push for stricter regulations, including efforts to limit the number of firearms owned by citizens, restrict ammunition sales, and enforce stricter background check systems. Recent moves by local governments to pass new gun laws have only intensified the battle over the Second Amendment. One major area of concern for SAF is the rise of red flag laws, which allow law enforcement to seize firearms from individuals deemed to be a threat. SAF has voiced concerns that these laws may infringe upon due process rights and could be used to unjustly target gun owners based on subjective criteria. Red flag laws are a serious threat to the Second Amendment, Kraut stated. They provide the government with a troubling ability to confiscate firearms without a proper hearing, which undermines the basic protections afforded to American citizens under the Constitution. The outcome of this legal struggle will shape the future of firearm ownership in the U.S., and the consequences of losing ground could have far-reaching implications for law-abiding citizens.
