In the early hours of Sunday morning, a homeowner in a North Scottsdale neighborhood used a lawfully owned firearm to defend his family against three armed individuals attempting a violent home invasion. According to a preliminary statement from the Scottsdale Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 AM. The suspects, reportedly armed with handguns, forced entry through a rear glass door, waking the residents. The homeowner, who has not been named, retrieved an AR-15 style rifle he kept secured for home defense and confronted the intruders from a tactically advantageous position in a hallway. He fired multiple rounds, striking two of the suspects and causing the third to flee the scene. Police arrived within minutes to find one suspect deceased inside the home and a second suspect wounded in the backyard. The second suspect was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The third suspect remains at large, and a search is underway. The homeowner and his family, including two young children who were asleep in their rooms, were physically unharmed.
